GENERAL QUESTIONS
It’s both! THE OUTBREAK is a team-based health and fitness challenge that unfolds via THE OUTBREAK app. You control your character through your real-world steps and exercise, which are synced into the game via Apple Healthkit, Google Fit, Fitbit, Apple Watch etc.
No. THE OUTBREAK can pull activity directly from Apple Healthkit on iPhones with a motion coprocessor (iPhone 5S and newer), and via Google Fit on Android smartphones with motion tracking (most modern devices), so while we recommend a fitness tracker for the best experience, you can absolutely play THE OUTBREAK using just your smartphone.
THE OUTBREAK syncs activity from Apple Healthkit (iOS) and Google Fit (Android) which in turn accept steps and workout data from a wide range of fitness trackers and apps, like Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin and others. Please consult your individual fitness tracker or app to ensure it syncs to Apple Healthkit or Google Fit.
We maintain a list of compatible fitness trackers and apps on our COMPATIBLE TRACKERS AND APPS page.
Absolutely. Head over to The Outbreak community Facebook page to find other wasteland survivors looking to join or recruit new adventurers.

T-Shirts mis-shipped by the company will be replaced to the customer at no additional cost.

OUTBREAK CHALLENGES VS. VIRTUAL RACES
The Outbreak has two distinct ways to play:
OUTBREAK CHALLENGES
- Duration-based: Challenge missions require players to stay active for a set amount of time, ranging from 2-6 weeks in length, depending on the mission.
- Team-based: Challenge missions have a minimum team size of 3 players.
- No swag is included: Challenge missions do not come with medals or other collectibles.
OUTBREAK VIRTUAL RACES
- Distance-based: Virtual race missions require players to reach a certain distance and they end immediately when the distance is reached.
- Play solo or on teams: Virtual race missions can be played both solo and with teams.
- Swag is included for finishers: Virtual race missions come with medals and/or other collectibles for those who complete the race.
No. Medals are only included with Outbreak virtual races.
Medals are not included with Outbreak challenges.
When you complete an Outbreak virtual race, you will be sent a medal redemption code and instructions via email.
Simply follow the instructions to redeem your code on our web store. Orders are typically shipped within 4 business days of redemption.
Note: medals are only included with Outbreak virtual races and are not included with Outbreak challenges.

We can confirm, they are, indeed, quite awesome.
TEAMS
The Outbreak challenges are designed as team-based experiences and require a minimum of 3 players per team. You can absolutely play with a single team but we recommend multiple teams for the best experience.
The Outbreak virtual races are best experienced as part of a team, but can accommodate solo players and/or teams of one.
When players enter your group’s challenge code into The Outbreak app they’ll be prompted to choose (or create) a team in the challenge.
Anyone who creates a team becomes that team’s “captain” in the app, and can choose to leave the team open to anyone or lock the team with a passcode.
In Outbreak challenges teams can be between 3-10 players.
In Outbreak virtual races teams can be 1-10 players.
Teams that don’t meet the minimum team size are automatically combined with other teams and/or individuals that don’t have enough players to participate prior to the challenge start.
OTHER
No. THE OUTBREAK features some very mild cartoon violence (i.e. you want to see your character smash the zombies, right?). The art style and overall tone are lighthearted and appropriate for all ages.
When you start THE OUTBREAK for the first time, you’ll be prompted to connect a fitness tracker. Simply follow the on-screen prompts to select the option that works best for you and grant permission for THE OUTBREAK to import your activity data from the source you select.
Once connected, THE OUTBREAK will sync to your device every 30 seconds or so that you have THE OUTBREAK app open on the gameboard.
We maintain a list of compatible fitness trackers and apps on our COMPATIBLE TRACKERS AND APPS page.
Each Outbreak mission has its own activity prescription, with most featuring a standard intensity and an extreme intensity.
Outbreak challenges are multi-week events that start easier and ramp up the intensity over the course of each chapter. The standard intensity is plenty for most people, though if you’re a runner or spend a lot of time on your feet you may want to consider the extreme intensity.
Outbreak virtual races have a distance requirement with a maximum time limit (example: 60 miles in 31 days). Scoring is based upon time, so the quicker you can complete the distance, the better your score.
